Avatar was originally prepared for release 22 May 2009, during filming, but the film has been delayed to December 18, 2009. This was done to allow more time for post-production, and also to give more time to visit the theaters worldwide to install 3D projectors. 1.85:1 aspect ratio the film is in 3D, but a Cinemascope (2.35:1) format will extracted for the 2D projections. Avatar also released in IMAX 3D.The first photograph of the film was released August 14, 2009, and the Empire Magazine published photos exclusive of the film in its October issue.
