Penance is one of those "first person" movies. A text blurb at the beginning of picture tells us that these bands were about abandonment of Lichtenstein hospital for mentally ill criminals …. Along with fourteen dead. If the style is famous for The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, and more recently the paranormal activity that embarrassed look away because stylistically, this film is cut from the same coverage. Thematically, however, Penance at least gets points for trying a few things to differentiate themselves from the so-called torture porn (a term horrible and useless if there ever was one) as probably wrong.
So what bands found these calls tell us or show us? A beautiful young woman named Amelia (Marieh Delfino) has a life quite difficult. A single mother and not the easiest of the two ends meet, then, to keep her son, she decided to work as a stripper. Before making fun, it's normal. Her eyes and body to make a good picture of him and is an easy way for a viewer to raise funds if necessary. She learned inside and outside the trade and takes it as something natural first, everything seemed to go very well for a new peeler favorite.
Everything changes when one night his friend and colleague, Suzy (Eve Mauro) becomes the holy hell beaten in his time in a job. To complicate matters for the poor is the fact that Suzy is supposed to work in club that night, and in its current state, which is simply not true. She convinces the gullible poor Amelia to work for her that night, but soon realizes that something is wrong. Its turn, a car engine by a mysterious stranger (Tony Todd), who leads the club, but an unknown location where, after his encounter with a murderer in the pay cycle (Michael Rooker), in a flashy white suit, she is forced to dance for a man with serious problems (Graham McTavish) not less than it affects women of cleaning such as Amelia of their sins, …
Penance is successful in an area where many modern horror films can not be bothered to try to do, and building a character credible and sympathetic. Marieh Delfino launches into his head, his Amelia is not only easy on the eyes and very beautiful thing we can buy it as a stripper, but she has a feature well actually pretty decent and understandable to work with him that we are to succeed. When the winds of a captive crowd, we see it as fodder for their anger, but as someone who can take root and we want not only to escape his life, but with all parts intact. In contrast to the work in the film is Delfino Graham McTavish, who many of us remember when he played Rambo idiot. Here, his character is worse than that, it's crazy and completely wrong, and since this type tend to be full of repressed anger bowed to the release of physically less powerful than himself. McTavish never quit, even on venturing into self-parody, rather, he instils character with the threat enough that it is actually quite frightening. Add a few support functions and funny Michael Rooker, Tony Todd and you are a beautiful Part of a painting on a budget.
The image is not perfect – some of the effects are not one hundred percent and convince everyone "found footage" tactic is not always believable either, but penance has a decent story with some good surprises and has some good performances and memorable scenes. It relies too heavily on clichés or puts too much emphasis on the cries and suffering, however, shows us enough to let us know in no uncertain terms what is happening and how. Despite its flaws, is a fun and well done image that makes worthwhile for fans of independent horror films.
